01AUG Blue Star Mothers Miami Valley CH3 2nd Annual Support for the Troops0

BSM MV CH3 and RT11 will be hosting a benefit ride for Support of the Blue Star Mothers of the Miami Valley. Monies collected will be used to purchase items and pay for postage of care packages of our troops overseas as well as packages for local veterans in need. The event will be held at Jackass Flats on 1AUG09 with sign ups from 10 to Noon and bikes out at noon with last bike in at 1530. Music,prizes, and a pig roast will be included in the entry fee.

Celebration of Life toy run in honor of Poleclimber May 30th0

A honorary run to celebrate the life of Dave “Poleclimber” Courtney to collect toys to be donated to Childrens Medical Center. Signups will begin at 11am with bikes out at 1pm from Two Bob’s. Cost is $10.00 per person or $15.00 per couple or a equal value NEW toy. There will all day festivities with music, food, prizes,etc.Rain Date will be June 1st.

First 100 signups will receive a free bandana.

Columbus Veterans Beneficial Board 5th annual Armed Forces Day Ride2

All Vehicles are invited to participate. The $10.00 donation will include dinner, music,prizes, and raffles.

The event will begin at American Legion Post 532, 1571 Demorest Road in Columbus and ride to the VA Center in Chillicothe.

The riders will be escorting a truck of goods being delivered to the Hospital for the veterans there.

The signups will be May 16th - 9-1030am breakfast will be available   11am last bike out   2-6pm After Ride Party.

If inclement weather, the afternoon festivities will still be held.

VVA Chapter 97 Poker Run - June 20th0

Vietnam Veterans of America Post 97 will be holding a poker run June 20th with a rain date of June 21st. The run will originate at Jackass Flats on Rip Rpa Road at the corner of Fishburg Road. Signups will begin at 11am with bikes out at 1pm. The cost is $15.00 per rider and $5.00 for a passenger. Ther will be door prizes, raffles, 50/50 drawings, music and many more entertainment activities. All proceeds will be for the cahpter to assist veterans in need.

July 24 - 26 Veteran Gathering0

RT11 is proudly hosting, with the assistance of numerous other organizations, a Veteran’s Gathering Weekend. This 3 day event will commemorate veterans from all eras as well as their families. There will be food, music, refreshments, numerous vendors, and special celebrations honoring veterans with a special candlelight vigil on Saturday evening courtesy of Chained Eagles.

A special memorial ride will be conducted by Rolling Thunder Chapter 11 on Saturday afdternoon in rememberance of our country’s POW/MIA’s from all wars.

The gate cost is undetermined at this time but will be updated ASAP, this will be only minimal to cover any overhead encountered.

This will be held at the VFW park in Frankiln the same as the SOVA gathering of the past. Limited  camping is available as well as vendor space.

To his many many friends, it is with a heavy heart I have to report the passing of our Brother, Friend ,and President David E. Courtney / “Pole Climber”. Dave passed comfortably at home with his family at his bedside. I have included his Obituary from the Dayton Daily News, You can go to their site and post a message that his family is reading.

Pole Climber will be always in our hearts. Please join us in a celibration of his life at the Miamisburg American Legion Post after the graveside service Saturday.

COURTNEY, David E. “Pole Climber” Age 57, of Miamisburg, OH, passed away, Tuesday November 4, 2008. David was born in Dayton, OH, on February4, 1951. He was a member of Christ Life Church in Kettering, OH. In addition he was the Charter President for Rolling Thunder, Inc. - Chapter 11, Charter President of Miamisburg Moose Riders and founding President of CCMBF. David was preceded in death by his father, Chester E. Courtney; and a brother, Daniel Lee Courtney, a sister, Yvonne Courtney, and special “brother” Pappy. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Cystyne M. (Hess) Courtney; 3 sons, Jeremy Courtney, Shane (Chrystal) Courtney all of Miamisburg, and Boomer Courtney of Ft. Leonard Wood, MO; a special daughter, Stormy Courtney of Miamisburg, OH; his mother, Mary Courtney of Miamisburg, OH; 6 grandchildren, Katie, Lizzie, Brooke, Gabriel, Harley, and Sarina; and his brother, John (Phyllis) Williams of Dayton, OH. Friends may call 6-8 p.m., Friday November 7th, at the Dalton Funeral Home, Corner of State Route 4 & Weaver Rd., Germantown, where the Funeral Service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, with Pastor Ken Henderson and Chaplain Instant Coffee officiating. Burial Hillgrove Cemetery.
